MU
MU Australia is autonomous but is part of the World Wide MU [Mothers' Union].
St Jude's MU branch is part of the Brisbane Diocese
The PURPOSE of the Mothers' Union: Is to be specially concerned with all that strengthens and preserves marriage and Christian family life.
ITS AIM is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life.
Its FIVE OBJECTS are:
- To uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding.
- To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church.
- To maintain a World Wide fellowship of Christians unified in prayer, worship and service.
- To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.
- To help those whose family life has met with adversity.
Our branch meets at the Judah Ministry Centre on the 2nd Wednesday of the month:
- 11.30 AM Prayer Time This is optional with members saying a pray of their choice or praying as the Holy Spirit moves them for persons, events or topical situations.
- 12.00 MD Fellowship and BYO Lunch to share.
- 1.00 PM Meeting [usually finished by 2.30 PM]
We have various activities, guest speakers and visits to other branches. We all celebrate together branch birthdays and Deanery days which are in themselves enjoyable and entertaining and help us keep connected with other Anglicans. We go on an annual bus trip, which is eagerly anticipated each year. We also outreach to the needy, especially at the Women's Shelter . One event is a Quiet Day, a day of quiet reflection and prayer. We also participate in Wave of Prayer and World Day of Prayer.
Mia MIa is our Australian magazine. It is published 4 times a year and which each member receives.
Membership is $27 per annum this includes the delivery of the magazine to every member
MU is NOT a fund raising organisation, however we do organise within the parish 2 collections a year:
- MU Outreach and Emergency Fund
- Spiritus Chaplaincy Fund
Within the branch and hence the Diocese there are departments such as:
- Prayer and Spirituality
- Link Correspondence
- Magazine Secretary
- Cradle Roll
- Social Responsibility
This keeps our branch members informed and communication spreads to Diocesan and Australian level.
Each member is given a Service Hand Book when they [men or women] officially join MU. The book contains much information and prayers and litanies. Mary Sumner, our founder, has a prayer dedicated to her plus we say her own personal prayer which is indicative for us today.
We welcome any interested person to join with us.
